Tarkine Wilderness Walks
Located just 35 minutes from the Burnie Airport and situated on 200 acres of privately owned land, the Tarkine Wilderness Lodge offers walks into the pristine, Tarkine Rainforest.
Your hosts at the lodge are experienced guides who can escort you on a safe and breathtaking walk, through one of the largest temperate rainforests in the Southern Hemisphere, providing walkers with plenty of information about this ancient 60 million year old forest, home to many threatened and endangered species.
During your walks you will see a large variety of plant species ranging from tall eucalyptus, giant myrtles, sassafras, blackwood and an abundance of ferns, mosses and lichens. The tracks meander under the rainforest canopy and pass by several small creeks and rivers. There are three walks from the lodge to choose from, lasting from one to three hours, with some walks inclusive of either a barbecue or lunch at the lodge, on return. Group bookings are welcome.
An extended walk at the magnificent Arthur River with picnic lunch on the river bank, is also available. You are welcome to stay overnight at the Tarkine Wilderness Lodge, prior to and following the walk. To avoid disappointment bookings are essential for all walks and accommodation, which are also subject to weather conditions.
By taking part in the forest walks and learning first hand from experienced Tasmanian guides, you are helping further to protect our pristine wilderness.
