Mountain Valley Wilderness Holidays
Hidden in the lost valley of Loongana amongst the mountains of North West Tasmania and 50km inland from the coast, is Mountain Valley, a secluded eco-retreat on a ‘Private Nature Reserve’ and registered ‘Land for Wildlife’ property.
Nestled in a clearing beneath the majestic presence of Black Bluff Mountain, on the banks of the Leven River, are 6 fully-equipped log cabins.
All the cabins provide fresh spring water, piped from within the reserve and verandahs where you can sit and watch the native birdlife, whilst soaking up the tranquillity of the forest and mountain views.
We suggest you stay here for at least 2 nights to experience everything there is on offer.
As dusk approaches, Mountain Valley comes alive as Tasmanian devils and spotted-tail quolls climb onto your verandah for their evening meal, kindly placed there by Len, your host. If you are very quiet, sit motionless amongst the animals and get close up views of their eating habits and peck order – an amazing experience.
Mountain Valley is ideal for those interested in hiking and unique wildlife experiences with guided platypus, glow worm grotto, cave or forest habitat tours. There are deep river gorges, cool fern glades, ancient rainforests, glacial lakes, mountain peaks and cascading waterfalls – mostly fairly easy to explore.
Discover the nearby Leven Canyon, where a 20 minute return walk will take you to a lookout, 274m above the roaring Leven river.
Relax, unwind, take time away from the pressures of the world and explore this lost valley. Try Pat’s wonderful cooking – but book well ahead for meals and accommodation.
